Fishing

St Ives is home to the largest handline fleet on the north coast of Cornwall. There are over 20 small boats, mainly single-handed operation using handlines to catch mackerel in St Ives bay. These fish are of the finest quality and are mainly sent to auction at Newlyn.

In addition to the handline fleet, some larger boats fish for brown crab and lobster using pots. The shellfish are sold to local processors and wholesalers. Annual landings are in the region of 70 tonnes.
